Spot Valley move closer to Inter Zone with easy win

- Paul Clarke Gleaner Writer

HOUDINI’S MAGIC (Shane Ellis). WESTERN BUREAU: COURTNEY CHISHOLM capped a brilliant display for his side with an audacious solo goal in the 90th minute to lift Spot Valley High to a 2-0 win over Muschett High in their ISSAFLOW daCosta Cup Zone C game yesterday.

Chisholm’s strike, his fifth goal of the campaign, followed a 54th minute tap-in from substitute Andre Gardner, as the Gregory Palmer-coached Spot Valley moved to 11 points.

“We are still eyeing qualification to the next round. It is proving a little bit difficult given what the team has been through recently with points deducted, but we are back with a victory that sets us up moving into our next game,” Palmer told The Gleaner.

FEW SPARKS

But in a game that should have provided plenty of sparks, there was little of that except for the two goals and a few missed chances mainly for Spot Valley, as Chisholm, Reno Edmunson and Gardner came close with long-range efforts.

The zone is still being led by Cedric Titus High (19 points), following their drawn fixture against Herbert Morrison Technical.

Meanwhile, a battle royal looms in Zone D with Godfrey Stewart High and Little London High, both locked on 19 points, hoping to steal top honours. And it was made no easier yesterday as both schools won their matches.

Godfrey Stewart edged Manning’s 2-1, while Little London, easily the competition’s most improved team, tagged Maud McLeod 2-0. Third-placed Petersfield hammered Grange Hill 5-0.

Zone A runaway leaders Cornwall College, having already sealed an Inter-Zone spot, were in a no-nonsense mood, hitting the fading Green Pond 5-0.
