The fol­low­ing events took place on Oc­to­ber 11 in the years iden­ti­fied:

1987:The World Bridge Fed­er­a­tion’s 28th Ber­muda Bowl and sixth Venice Cup Cham­pi­onships get un­der way at the Mal­lards Beach Ho­tel in Ocho Rios with host coun­try Ja­maica mak­ing a suc­cess­ful start in both the men’s and women’s cham­pi­onships against Canada and Ar­gentina, re­spec­tively. The men’s team de­feats Canada 16 points to 14 af­ter trail­ing their op­po­nents at the end of the first ses­sion. The ladies dis­posed of Ar­gentina 19-11 af­ter tak­ing an early lead at the end of the first ses­sion.

1990:three The ded­i­ca­tion of teach­ers is re­warded when Vic­to­ria Mu­tual Build­ing So­ci­ety presents them with cheques val­ued at J$5,000 each. The schol­ar­ships are to as­sist the teach­ers who are all pur­su­ing de­gree cour­ses at the Uni­ver­sity of the West Indies. All three teach­ers have been teach­ing for 10 years or more. The re­cip­i­ents of the 1990 VMBS Teacher’s Schol­ar­ship are Ul­rica Clarke, guid­ance coun­sel­lor of Bog Walk Sec­ondary; Redva Fer­ril, se­nior teacher of Gre­gory Park All-Age; and Ray­mond Mun­roe, vice-prin­ci­pal of Cal­abar All-Age.
