David Fitton: British High Commissioner to Jamaica
“Not for me to say whether there are any lessons Jamaica can learn from the United States presidential election.
“Jamaica has its own fully democratic system. The election I’ve seen take place here democratically and fairly.
“But I can see why Jamaica, like the rest of the world, is interested in the outcome, because America has a very big influence worldwide, whether it’s politically, economically, militarily or in international affairs.
“I don’t want to speculate how Jamaica will benefit from a Trump presidency or a Clinton presidency.
“In terms of bilateral relations between the US and Jamaica, whichever candidate wins, they will be the best way forward.”
