“Not surprised that Jamaicans have taken great interest in the US presidential election. “The American media is in many living rooms in Jamaica ... and people are, of course, interested, because what happens in the United States has a tremendous influence on the world and certainly our region, so I’m not surprised that people are following it closely.
“The world is going in a direction where consensus will be harder to achieve and where it’s somewhat less stable and predictable. If you look at Brexit, if you look at Trump, it’s a new era and we are not yet fully on top of fully understanding it. So one of the lessons that I would learn from this is that you can’t assume that the future is going to resemble the past, a natural extension of where things have been progressing in the past.”
