Meet the Huawei Mate 9

- – Payton H. Wilmott

THIS YEAR, Tech Time got the esteem opportunity to be at CES 2017, aka, ‘ground zero’ for new tech, but there was one major announcement that stood out of the crowd – and that was the launch of Huawei’s flagship device the Huawei Mate 9. The successor to the highly successful Huawei Mate 8 has finally arrived, and it seems like it’s going to be a major seller for Huawei again in 2017. The features they talked about and the attention they place into listening to what the public wanted in a high-end smartphone was not short of outstanding. After a very informative launch event at the Cesar’s Place in Las Vegas, we were able to put together five key features of the Huawei Mate 9 that potential buyers should know.

STANDOUT FEATURES

Dual 20MP +12MP, f/2.2, 27mm, with Leica optics – the optics for this phone was made in conjunction with the company Leica. Leica is a company that certainly knows their way around building a good camera from the dawn of time.

USB V2.0 TYPE-C 1.0 REVERSIBLE CONNECTOR

Say goodbye to micro USB 2.0 and welcome the future of USB Type C. USB type C charges phones faster and has higher data transfer rates. After 20 minutes on the charger, the Mate 9 can be used for the whole day without being charged again.

STEREO LOUDSPEAKERS

The Mate 8 had really excellent loudspeakers and its predecessor isn’t any different. The Mate 9 boasts stereo speakers now and they sound just as excellent as their predecessor.

MACHINE LEARNING

This is something new and very interesting. Huawei states that the Mate 9 will analyse your everyday use and optimise your phone accordingly. This means that after a year of using the Mate 9, it will not slow down in its everyday functions.

FULLY SUPPORT VULKAN API

The GPU in the Mate 9 is able to run the new Vulkan API, which will result in better graphics, frame rates and less mobile games crashes. Believe it or not, all of this is encased into a slim and elegant phone that has 4GB of RAM and is operated by the Octa-core processor called the Hisilicon Kirin 960. This processor is currently one of the highest on the mobile CPU benchmark scales.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The specification sheet for the Huawei Mate 9 is impressive indeed, but there is one more thing that I forgot to mention and that is, the Huawei Mate 9 has a pro-variant with amped-up specs. You get everything the Mate 9 has to offer, plus a Quad HD super Amoled screen that seems to be curved at the sides. Huawei seems to be pushing hard this year with their line of high-end devices, and they have made a bold step forward with the Huawei Mate 9.
