Pump more state funds into church-led social reform

It is normal for people to hope for better times, but nothing in scripture promises anything better for the world. As a matter of fact, Jesus, in His discourse to His disciples on the Mount of Olives, told them of what is going to take place in the leadup to His return (see Mathew 24:4-12). These are the very same things that are happening today, even as humanity gains more knowledge, more experience and becomes more mature.

The increased expenditure and manpower that the Government plans to invest in crime-fighting should be channelled into other areas for social reawakening and the saving of souls. They may say that this is the Church’s business, but it will redound to the benefit of the nation.

TEMPERING AGGRESSION

Religious education should be compulsory in the syllabuses at the police and military training schools so as to temper the aggressiveness of the graduates.

I think that in addition to the churches around, each police station and military post should be fitted with a place for worship and counselling. The policemen and women serving the area should be at liberty to invite residents to take part in devotions they have daily prior to duty. This, I am sure, will forge a closer bond for the good of the society.

The Government should also allot resources to the churches for community uplift if it really wants to eradicate crime or bring it to a tolerable level.

The above-mentioned measures, along with other social interventions, such as more jobs and proper and affordable housing, will result in a more peaceful society, at least for a period.
