UNITED KINGDOM Reggae icon David Rodigan, MBE, has announced that he will be releasing an autobiography covering his 40 years of deejaying.

The book, titled My Life In Reggae, was written with Ian Burrell and is scheduled to be released in March.

According to several online sources, the book chronicles the story of how Rodigan, the son of an army sergeant major from Oxfordshire, became one of the biggest ambassadors for reggae music. Speaking with Resident Advisor, an online music magazine out of London, Rodigan revealed that he was reluctant at first to publish a book about his life, but said he was encouraged by several artistes to “write it down”.

“I was reluctant to publish an autobiography, but I was frequently told by artistes that I needed to ‘write it down’, not just for myself, but for the music, to document the journey and the sounds we’ve come to love,” he said. “I’ve always been a champion for the artistes and the music, but it was never really about my journey. However, over the years, my story has entwined with reggae as has my relationship with the culture and people of Jamaica.”

In conjunction with the book’s release, Rodigan will be embarking on a Q&A tour that visits London, Bristol, Glasgow and Liverpool to discuss the autobiography and his vintage dubplate collection. The first is scheduled for March 3 at Mick’s Garage in London.
