Wheatley heads to 5th Caribbean Sustainable Energy Forum
MINISTER OF Science, Energy and Technology Dr Andrew Wheatley is now headed to Nassau, Bahamas, for the 5th Caribbean Sustainable Energy Forum (CSEF-V) scheduled to begin tomorrow and end on Wednesday.
Wheatley was invited by CARICOM Secretary General Irwin LaRocque, and will lead a two-man Jamaican delegation to the forum.
The forum will seek to facilitate high-level dialogue on best practices aimed at promoting a region-wide shift to sustainable energy use, while encouraging greater use of renewable energy sources and improvements in energy efficiency in individual member states, in line with the CARICOM Energy Policy of 2013.
FORUM HOPED TO BOOST EFFORTS
“With the shared understanding that easy and economic access to and (the) efficient use of energy is the cornerstone of a production platform aimed at delivering economic growth and inclusive development, I expect that (the) forum will move us further along the trajectory of successfully achieving energy security and ... growth at both the individual member state and regional levels,” said Wheatley.
According to Wheatley, the biennial forum, which had its second meeting in Montego Bay, Jamaica, in 2010, seeks to more certainly link renewable energy policy and strategy to implementation at the regional level, while referencing individual member state best practices.
As a clean energy coordination and implementation forum, CSEF-V will see over one hundred national, regional and international stakeholders from civil society, and the private and public sectors in attendance.
