1956:Red The St Catherine

Cross Division is busy making plans for a Valentine Dance on Tuesday, February 14. This dance is under the distinguis­hed patronage of H.S. McGarth, custos of St Catherine, and will be held at the Spanish Town Club. The presence of the University College Steel Band will add the carnival spirit, and there will be games, exchange of valentines, and raffles. 1994’s Spelling Bee competitio­n, which is organised by The Gleaner’s Children’s Own newspaper, are currently choosing their spellers. Teachers must send the names and ages of their spellers to the Spelling Bee, 7 North Street, Kingston by February 28, 1994. been set up to assess, monitor and ensure the implementa­tion of the recommenda­tions of the report of the National Task Force on Crime. The Implementa­tion Committee and the National Advisory Committee begin to examine the report to identify areas that have not yet been implemente­d, to make recommenda­tions for the implementa­tion of others and to monitor and assess those which have already been implemente­d. A subcommitt­ee of the Cabinet, the Implementa­tion Committee comprises six ministers of government. They are the minister of national security and justice, K.D. Knight, who is chairman of the committee; minister of the public service and environmen­t, Easton Douglas; the legal affairs minister, David Coore; the minister of education and culture, Burchell Whiteman; the minister of labour and welfare, Portia Simpson; and the minister of local government, youth and sport John Junor.
