INTER-SECONDARY SCHOOLS Sports Association (ISSA) all-island senior netball champions Denbigh High and junior queens Gaynstead High collected the lion’s share of the trophies at yesterday’s ISSA presentation of awards for netball at the Terra Nova AllSuite Hotel.

Goal shooter Moya Manning of Denbigh and Gaynstead’s goalkeeper Latanya Wilson walked away with the MVP trophies for seniors and juniors, respectively.

Other individual awards went to junior goal shooters Britney Logan of Gaynstead for 80 per cent accuracy, and Holmwood’s Shanice McKenley with 85 per cent.

Among the seniors, goal shooter Kimberly Hudson of Excelsior and Manning of Denbigh both had 85 per cent accuracy.

Coaches were also recognised. Dalton Hinds of Gaynstead and Carline Graham Powell of Holmwood got awards for junior teams, and Christopher Smart of Excelsior and Christine Bartley of Denbigh were presented with awards following outstanding performances by their senior teams.

ISSA President Dr Walton Small expressed satisfaction with the discipline of the players during the competition.

“I am very pleased with the way you young ladies behaved during the competition as your behaviour on the court was impeccable,” he told the awardees.

UNHAPPY ABOUT ABSENCES

Competitions Director George Forbes was, however, unhappy that several persons and schools invited to the function were absent.

“I am not pleased with the absence of those invited because we are playing a competition without any form of sponsorship, and when this happens, we will not be able to convince our sponsors (to support the competition),” he said.

Also present at yesterday’s function were Angela Chaplain, ISSA’s chairperson for netball; Colleen Montaque, vice-president of ISSA; Dr Paula Daley Morris, president of the Jamaica Netball Association; and Molly Rhone, president of the International Netball Federation.
