Manor Park a traffic and vending nightmare

THE MANOR Park community continues to hope and pray for a miracle to rescue it from the daily unsightly and illegal vending and rush-hour traffic pile-up that have been a staple of this neighbourhood for so long.

On behalf of the citizens, I call on Karl Samuda, the long-time MP, and the newly elected councillor to use the trust we have placed in you to represent us.

We are sick and tired of the vending at the Norbrook Drive intersection and the bus stop at upper Manor Park Plaza. These activities are a clear and present danger to users of the bus shelters who are often forced on to the roadway as the bus stop is overrun with vendors.

I have often wondered if these people are untouchable, as successive administrations have never been able to do anything to enforce the laws against them.

The traffic situation is equally difficult to fathom. How could such a important corridor be neglected for so long! It’s an important exit and entry point into the city, yet it is clogged with traffic at all times with minibus drivers overtaking dangerously to get to their respective destinations.

We are calling on the new mayor, Delroy Williams, and the minister of transport and works, Mike Henry, and the MP to tour the area and get a first-hand look at the situation.

It may be a good idea to cut their collective teeth on a simple local issue before tackling the big task of transforming Kingston into the megacity of the Caribbean, as the new mayor has promised.
