JAMALCO BLANKED Maverley-Hughenden 2-0 in the battle of the promoted teams in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) yesterday at the Wembley Centre of Excellence in Clarendon.

The home side continued their dominance against Maverley-Hughenden courtesy of goals by Ronnaldo Christian in the 26th minute and substitute Andrew Isaacs (74th).

The Jamalco team had a perfect season versus their opponents, having won all three games. Jamalco dominated the game and could have won by a wider margin as Maverley-Hughenden’s goalkeeper Jovell Plunkett made several wonderful saves.

The win for Jamalco pushed them on to 26 points, in tenth position, just outside of the relegation zone, while Maverley-Hughenden remained on 24 points and slipped to eleventh position, just four ahead of last-placed Boys’ Town, who are on 19 points.

Coach of Jamalco Rayon Johnson was pleased with the result and performance by his team.

“We played some good football and deserved full points. We got the result and are looking forward to moving further away from the relegation zone. We are pretty confident in staying in the league next season,” Johnson said in a post-match interview.

On the other hand, coach of MaverleyHugh end en Anthony Patrick says that despite dropping into the relegation zone, there is no need to panic.

“It hurt us when Raymond Williamson was injured and replaced early in the game. We made some changes, but nothing happened. Once I’m still at the club, we will stay up for next season,” Patrick said.

The RSPL continues today with a Monday double-header at the National Stadium. In the first game, leaders, the University of the West Indies, who are on 47 points tackle second-placed Tivoli Gardens (45) starting at 5:30 p.m., while in the second game, Portmore United face off against Boys’ Town at 8 p.m.
