Hi-Lo renovates Portmore location

- Keisha Hill Gleaner Writer

FRESH PRODUCE, well-known brands and an in-store bakery will feature as key elements of GraceKennedy Limited’s continued renovation of its Hi-Lo chain of supermarkets. With the objective of building on the contemporary look, the company continues its focus on providing a world-class shopping experience.

The renovation exercise continues at the Hi-Lo Portmore location in the Portmore Pines Shopping Centre. According to Renee Nathan, general manager, Hi-Lo Food Stores, customers have experienced limited discomfort during the refurbishing exercise as the supermarket continues to deliver an integrated retail strategy for its customers’ comfort and convenience.

“The customers are excited and looking forward to the completion of the renovations. Every store won’t look the same, but they will have similar features, including lighting and updated decor. We will tweak each store as we go into each location, based on the needs of the customers,” Nathan said.

The project is part of the US$8-million renovation exercise of its chain of supermarkets and is the fifth of the 94-year-old GraceKennedy owned chain to be upgraded.

This renovation exercise followed that of Manor Park and Barbican, which took place in 2014 and 2015, and the opening of the Hi-Lo Liguanea and Hi-Lo Fairview stores in June of last year.

INTEGRATED RETAIL EXPERIENCE

The GraceKennedy Group aims to provide integrated retail experience which will make it easier for customers to transact various types of essential business at the locations. For example, at the branch in Liguanea, there are First Global and Western Union outlets, while at the Fairview location, just outside the supermarket, there is a Western Union and FX Trader outlet.

In keeping with its mandate and brand promise of ‘Making Life Easier’, the new Portmore location will boast wider aisles, a larger selection of grocery and non-grocery items, a pharmacy, juice bar, a bakery and a deli.

Hi-Lo Food Stores will continue its renovation activities in a few months at the Cross Roads and Spanish Town locations.
