Brown’s Town High School
FOUNDED IN September 1966, Brown’s Town High School is an institution which caters to over 100 communities within and around St Ann. The school began as an extension of Brown’s Town All-Age School, under the leadership of Mr C.E. Atkinson. It was not until 1969 that the school was declared a separate institution with approximately 560 students. In September 1994, the school was categorised as a comprehensive high school, which allowed the first group of students to gain direct entrance by way of the Common Entrance Examination. In September 2000, Brown’s Town was given highschool status. Students gained entry by way of the Grade Six and Grade Nine achievement tests.
Brown’s Town High School Achievements 2016-2017:
1. Music – 3rd in the island in Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate 2017 music exam.
2. Sports – ISSA Under-16 2016-2017 finals. 3. Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) 2016: a. Top Culture Club in the Northern Region. b. Top Culture Club Coordinator in the Northern Region. c. Most Outstanding Vocal Gospel Soloist – National Finalist.
4. Dance:
a. National Gold. b. Most Outstanding Popular Dance. c. Highest overall score in Class 4 Popular Dance. d. Most Outstanding Popular Dance Teacher.
5. Speech:
a. Gold at the parish level: 2 silver, 1 bronze.
6. Debate: Jamaica Constabulary Force Area 2 Debating Group a. Winner of St Ann Parish Finals b. Advanced to the finals: Regional 11 (Portland, St Mary, St Ann)
7. 4-H Club
a. Four students received the Rion Tinto Alcan Scholarship.
