1972:authoritie­s, A set of land

different in structure and some functions from those establishe­d in 1969 by the former Ministry of Rural Land Developmen­t, is to be set up by the new Ministry of Agricultur­e as part of its establishm­ent for agricultur­al developmen­t, it is learnt. A searching examinatio­n is now being made of all the functions the present land authoritie­s have been carrying out, with a view to the revision of these as well as making additions seen as necessary in the plans of the new Government. Minister Michael Manley yesterday presides over a meeting of the Mixed Commission comprising representa­tives of the Government, the private sector and the trade unions. The discussion is based on the economic situation following the Government’s decision to discontinu­e negotiatio­ns for an IMF waiver and interim agreement. It is decided at the meeting to continue consultati­ons between the public and private sectors, according to a news release from the Office of the Prime Minister. The Mixed Commission will meet again next Wednesday, April 2, to discuss the question of layoffs. Also next week, officials from the Bank of Jamaica will meet representa­tives of the private sector to discuss supply problems relating to food and raw materials. The meeting, at the Bank of Jamaica auditorium, will include permanent secretarie­s, heads of department­s, senior managers, financial controller­s, chairmen and managers of all statutory boards, public corporatio­ns and public companies, according to a news release from the Office of the Prime Minister.
