1972:authorities, A set of land
different in structure and some functions from those established in 1969 by the former Ministry of Rural Land Development, is to be set up by the new Ministry of Agriculture as part of its establishment for agricultural development, it is learnt. A searching examination is now being made of all the functions the present land authorities have been carrying out, with a view to the revision of these as well as making additions seen as necessary in the plans of the new Government. Minister of Agriculture Keble Munn speaks of the new land authorities, the manning of their boards of management, as well as some of their proposed functions, at the monthly meeting of the Jamaica Agricultural Society’s board of management. 1980:Prime
Minister Michael Manley yesterday presides over a meeting of the Mixed Commission comprising representatives of the Government, the private sector and the trade unions. The discussion is based on the economic situation following the Government’s decision to discontinue negotiations for an IMF waiver and interim agreement. It is decided at the meeting to continue consultations between the public and private sectors, according to a news release from the Office of the Prime Minister. The Mixed Commission will meet again next Wednesday, April 2, to discuss the question of layoffs. Also next week, officials from the Bank of Jamaica will meet representatives of the private sector to discuss supply problems relating to food and raw materials. The meeting, at the Bank of Jamaica auditorium, will include permanent secretaries, heads of departments, senior managers, financial controllers, chairmen and managers of all statutory boards, public corporations and public companies, according to a news release from the Office of the Prime Minister.
