Isratech expanding to Montego Bay

ISRATECH JAMAICA Limited, a supplier of solar water heaters, is shelling out $150 million to expand into Montego Bay, where it will build new offices, retail space and warehousing for its three divisions.

The company is moving closer to the hotel hub to tap emerging business.

“The idea is to cater to the entire north coast,” said Benjamin Hodara, vicepresident of marketing and sales.

The new Isratech complex, which will also feature a conference centre and showroom, will be developed at Reading on property spanning nearly two acres, Hodara said. It’s to be finalised by year end.

Once that project is complete, a similar complex will be developed in Kingston, the businessman said.

Founded in 1985, Isratech now operates three divisions — Jamaica Drip Irrigation, Isratech Water Works, and Isratech Energy Solutions.

Currently, all the company’s manufacturing and warehousing is centralised at its home base in Manchester.

The expansion is especially meant to position the Water Works Division for new business.

“We are the largest distributor of water infrastructure projects on the island. We want to service and supply these systems to the hotel industry and also maintain their existing systems,” said Hodari, who

notes the company will be taking on 20-25 more workers.

The Kingston complex, for which land is still being scouted, will have a little less staff, “just because we aren’t going to need the full engineering power that we will need in Montego Bay,” he said. The investment to be made is still being finalised.

“We want to replicate what we will do in Montego Bay for Kingston. Right now, we just have a small branch on Red Hills Road, so we want to do a proper buildout,” Hodari said, while noting the current site does suit the company’s expansion needs.
