Parliament gives warm welcome to incoming police chief
INCOMING POLICE Commissioner George Quallo yesterday received a warm welcome in the House of Parliament from both sides of the political divide, signalling high expectations of the new police chief. National Security Minister Robert Montague declared that Quallo’s appointment was a new phase in Jamaica’s rebuilding process. “On behalf of the Government of Jamaica, in particular the Ministry of National Security, we wish to congratulate Mr Quallo on his selection and wish him all the best in his new post. A new phase of rebuilding is in order,” stated Montague. Opposition Spokesperson on National Security Peter Bunting described Quallo as a professional who leads from the front. The member of parliament also highlighted that citizens, particularly from his Central Manchester constituency where Quallo was once the commanding officer, fully embrace him. “The Opposition joins the Government in welcoming Mr George Quallo as police commissioner. He is somebody I worked with when I was minister. I have great confidence in his professionalism, his dedication to duty, and he is someone who believes in the principle of community policing,” stated Bunting. “I, being member of parliament for Central Manchester, can’t help reflecting that he was commanding officer. Up to recently, I heard citizens referring to the time he was in charge. It speaks a lot to the trust, to the professionalism, and to the approach he uses.”
