John Mills will win, says coach
RANSFORD SPAULDING, the John Mills coach, is extremely confident of victory going into today’s third and final day of the INSPORTS All-Age & Junior High Athletics Championships at the Stadium East field.
John Mills, who are seeking their 23rd hold on the title, lead the standings with 205.5 points, ahead of defending champions Windward Road with 186.
“I think the team that makes the least mistakes will win,” said Spaulding. “But I am confident that we will come out the winners because we have a lot of persons in the finals, and I think that we will do extremely well in the relays,” he said.
The top two are followed by Constant Spring with 108, Swallowfield (75), Cockburn Gardens (72), Calabar (55), New Day (51), Shortwood Practising (48), Mico Practising (34.5), and Green Park, with 29 completing the top 10.
YESTERDAY’S RESULTS
In results yesterday, Antonio Phillips won the Class One boys’ 200m in 24.04 seconds ahead of Calabar’s Raheim Hamilton (24.31) and Jahiem Gilmore from John Mills (24.46).
Zorna Douglas took the girls’ equivalent in 28.20 in front of her teammate Jessica McDonald (28.32) and New Day’s Vanessa Anderson (28.36).
New Day’s Royon Mais won the boys’ Class Two 200m in 25.64 ahead of Bob Fisher from Swallowfield (25.65) and Horatio Brown of Calabar (25.98).
John Mills finished first and second in the boys’ Class One 800m with Antonio Hylton winning in 2:18.55 ahead of Shemar Dillion (2:19.11). Jameel Grant of Constant Spring took bronze in 2:22.06.
Swallowfield’s Damarley Hussey won the boys’ shot put open with a throw of 10.06m. Atiba Clarke of John Mills (9.79m) and Windward Road’s Oniel Collins (9.78m) were second and third, respectively.
