LASCO, Visions International partner to fight crime

-

LASCO MONEY, in partnership with Visions International, supported a week-long campaign to promote the end of crime and violence against women and children in Jamaica.

The campaign, which commenced in April, engaged more than 1,000 persons in nightly motivational talks and exercises at Pentacostal Gospel Showers in Riverton Meadows and Payne Land, Kingston.

Over the first three nights, 450 residents were honoured for their voluntary work in innercity communities, while students of Bailey’s Basic School were rewarded with gifts and prizes for participating in the LASCO Money/Visions International essay competition.

For LASCO Money, it was important to spread the message to end crime and violence against the nation’s most vulnerable.

“LASCO Money welcomed the opportunity to sponsor this series of events because most of our customers are women and this event provides a safe space to empower them,” said Nicolene Donaldson, marketing manager, LASCO Financial Services.

CONCERNING LEVELS

“LASCO has an established culture of helping our fellow man and the Church remains the heart of many communities across our great nation, so this is a great space to bring light and unite communities for the cause. And it is evident, now more than ever that crime and violence against our women and children is at visibly concerning levels,” Donaldson added.

Visions International developed the ‘BAD (Blessed, Anointed and Dynamic), Girlz meet BAD (Blessed, Anointed and Delivered) Boyz for Christ against crime and violence in Jamaica’ campaign.

Lasco Money regularly provides support at the grass-roots level across the nation. The company sponsors Social Development Commission T20 Cricket and the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission Festival Queen and World Reggae Dancers programmes, while giving administrative support to University of Technology, Jamaica, Merl Grove High, Papine High, Mona Primary, and St Richards Primary schools. It also provides annual scholarships worth $100,000 for students to sit for Caribbean Secondary Examination Council.

The end-violence campaign wrapped up with a Prayer and Praise in Mandela Park, HalfWay Tree, on Good Friday, and a hearty lunch at Pentacostal Gospel Showers, Riverton Meadows, for the community.

LASCO Money is the consumer-facing brand of LASCO Financial Services Limited (LFSL) and was incorporated in 2004 as a cambio and remittance service provider licensed by the Bank of Jamaica.
