Denroy Morgan to perform at PULS8’s Pepperseed on Wednesday
FOR MORE than four decades, reggae icon Denroy Morgan has been working assiduously at the job he loves the most – his music.
Morgan, who is the patriarch of the Grammy awardwinning group, Morgan Heritage, rose from working as a dishwasher when he first migrated to the United States, to dominating the top of the Billboard charts with his smash single, I’ll Do Anything For You. He has just released a new album called Muzical Unity, which chronicles his astonishing growth as an artiste, and this Wednesday night, he performs new cuts from his album alongside old favourites at Pepperseed at PULS8 on Trafalgar Road in Kingston.
Morgan, a bishop at the International Gospel Helpers Church in the United States, is also an advocate and one of the loudest voices for the legalisation of marijuana across the diaspora. He was recently featured on the upcoming remake of Peter Tosh’s classic anthem, Legalise It, and a few years ago, he successfully defended himself against marijuana possession charges in New York based on claims of his sacramental use of the herb. Morgan is also an ambassador for the Ethiopian Orthodox Coptic Church of North and South America
Morgan is currently in Jamaica for promotional activities around his new album and the world premier of several versions of his new music video, Hallelujah. He was also in Jamaica last October when he performed Get Up, Stand Up with other reggae luminaries for the opening of the Peter Tosh Museum. Get Up, Stand Up, written by Tosh and Marley, is also a featured track on the new set.

“Muzical Unity is my first full-length album in many years, and I am truly proud of this milestone as it celebrates my secular and my spiritual journeys over the past few years,” Morgan said. “In recent times, I have been the humble recipient of many blessings that have empowered and preserved me and my family, and I have also enjoyed creative freedom like never before on this new body of work,” he added.
Morgan’s new album features 16 tracks, including spoken word cuts, and his performance on Wednesday will weave together old favourites with new gems.
