Harbour View on top at INSPORTS Primary Champs

HARBOUR VIEW are the leaders going into today’s third day of competition in the INSPORTS Primary School Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.

After two days of action, Harbour View lead the standings with 16 points after three finals. They are followed by Port Morant (13), Lyssons (11), New Providence and Gregory Park on (nine each), Kensington (seven), defending champions Naggo Head and Holy Family on (six each ) and St Catherine and Excelsior on (five each).

Two records were broken yesterday. New Providence’s Teddy-Ann Arthurs broke the girls’ high jump open record with a leap of 1.50m.

Arthurs’ efforts erased the previous mark of 1.48m, which was set in 2010 by Kashema Carter of Naggo Head. Kiara South from Kensington was second in 1.45m ahead of Naggo Head’s Samoya Ashbourne 1.40m. The 11-year-old Arthurs was delighted with her performance. “I am feeling very happy. The event wasn’t that difficult because I trained very for hard to win it,” she said.

ALWAYS CONFIDENT

Orlando Graham, who coaches Arthurs, said he was always confident that his charge would have won the event.

“I knew that she had it in her. You can expect great things from her because she has the potential. She just needs somebody to guide her along the way,” Graham said.

Gregory Park’s Janiel Mignott accounted for the second record of the day when she won the girls’ cricket ball open with a new mark of 51.45m.

Mignott’s efforts erased the previous mark of 49.45, which was held by Deandra Haye of Time and Patience.

Harbour View’s Sojohn Gayle was second in the event with a mark of 47.16m, while Rasheeda Samuels of Lyssons was third with 44.98m

Tarance Williams of Harbour View won the boys’ long jump open with a leap of 4.77m. Port Morant’s pair of Ramnoroy Brown, 4.75m, and Roemar Bryan, 4.72m, were second and third respectively.

Eleven finals will be contested today.
