Bearing a historic city’s name
IT IS my distinct honour to offer congratulations to the board of governors, principal, staff, students, and alumni of Spanish Town High School on the occasion of your 50th anniversary.
As an educational institution sited in the heart of, and bearing the name of a most historic city, your school has borne witness to many transitions that have taken place within the locality, while being subject to several structural and name changes of your own. Throughout all of this, the school family has been guided by the values of resilience and perseverance while providing a pathway to precious secondary education for thousands of students over the years.
Spanish Town High School continues to excel in vocational areas such as home management, business, woodwork, and clothing and textile, and possesses an enviable record of outstanding achievements in islandwide creative arts competitions and national sporting events, particularly cricket and rugby. For this, the students and staff must be highly commended on a job well done.
The observation of your 50th anniversary provides a framework within which all the school’s stakeholders, including parents and the wider community, can assess both the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. May this celebration further bolster the institution’s mission to promote knowledge and values among the young people in your charge.
Best wishes for your continued success. DR PETER PHILLIPS, MP Leader of the Opposition
