Brief history of the school
THIS INSTITUTION was opened in January 1967 as a junior secondary school. It commenced as a co-ed institution with an enrolment of over 830 distributed across three grade levels, 7-9.
Since its inception, the school has seen several transitions.
In 1974, the school evolved from Spanish Town Junior Secondary to Spanish Town Secondary School. It was in that year that the shift system was introduced to cater to the increased population due to overcrowding.
In 1978, the Ministry of Education erected the threestorey building, geared mainly at the vocational areas.
In 1995, we became a comprehensive high school.
In 2000, the school was upgraded to a high school.
The school currently has a population of 2,265 students, 130 teachers, and 35 members of support staff.
