West Indies coming of age again

THE EDITOR, Sir: STUART LAW, the current coach of the West Indies cricket team, is doing a tremendous job in reviving the talents we now have at our disposal. The team is playing a very attractive type of cricket which is welcoming, especially in this time and age where people have mixed reactions to the team and its strengths. The doldrums which West Indies cricket seems to be in is coming to an abrupt end. We will just wait and see what is happening with Coach Law and his team, and try and support them wholeheartedly.

With the new and improved thrust from the team, we can reconsider our options in riding the Caribbean bandwagon once more. The young players are showing that they have the killer instinct of men on a mission. Players like Roston Chase and Alzarri Joseph are the pride and joy of the new team on display. Chase, in particular, seems to be a very efficient and effective spin bowler and middle-order batsman. Shannon Gabriel is a peach of a player and has to be protected. If we could only harness the talents of these players, and give them the requisite support to integrate into a solidly based competitive unit!

We have improved tremendously and we all need to support the young dynamic players we have at our disposal. The coaches and the administrators of West Indies cricket must be commended for their unwavering commitment and great input in creating a new era for cricket lovers, in spite of the odds.
