Start with Necromancer
THE TWO-YEAR-OLDS are out for the first time this season, and they will ensure an interesting start to tomorrow’s Sunrise-Six at Caymanas Park.
Trainer Anthony Nunes holds a strong hand in the 600 metres event as his pair, NADESHICO and NECROMANCER, based on exercise reports, appears to be the most advanced of the five starters. The former has been clocking the better times, but on breeding, NECROMANCER is given the edge. Her sire is Casual Trick, whose dam is the 2003 Epsom Derby winner Casual Look.
NECROMANCER is also a half sister to the progressive local three-year-old Dontae (both out of Eighteen Karat).
XQUISITE CHOICE has had a number of near misses in recent weeks, and tomorrow could be his day. He goes in an 1820 metres event for $250,000 claimers, the same claiming group in which he has placed second three times and third once in his last four starts.
MATCH RACE
The third race over 1300 metres is shaping up to be a match race between SHELLIAN GREY and SPEEDY PROCESS. When the two clashed on March 18 over 1400 metres, SHELLIAN GREY ran on well to clip the latter by a head. They will go 100 metres shorter tomorrow but I still fancy SHELLIAN GREY to motor home and nab the front-running SPEEDY PROCESS in the final 50 metres.
The highly rated JAMAI RAJA should slam rivals in race four, an overnight allowance event over 1400 metres. He has been off the
track since December, but has been burning up the exercise track alongside classic contender Market Force in recent weeks. The Richard Azan-trained four-year-old gelding ran a blinder against the country’s best in last year’s rich Diamond Mile, placing fourth in 1:37.3, behind Seeking My Dream (1:36.2).
TRANSFUSION is given another chance to come good in race five. Trained by Gordon Lewis, TRANSFUSION gets a big drop in the handicaps (by 11lbs) after running an even race over 1000 metres behind Cartel on May 10. The threeyear-old continues to work well and now very light should
get home ahead of rivals in this 1600 metres event.
Trainer Peter McMaster’s PRINCESS EMANUELLE will be a lonely winner in the sixth. The four-year-old filly clocked 45.4x59.0 at exercise on May 20, beating her highly rated stable companion Choo Choo Blue. That is good enough to get the better of her rivals over the 1000 metres straight galloping course.
