Slams non-selection of Humble Lion players for training camps
HUMBLE LION Football Club’s boss Mike Henry has slammed the nonselection of players from his club to national senior men’s training camps over the past two weeks.
Losing semi-finalists Humble Lion topped the Red Stripe Premier League’s regular season with 61 points, but no player from that club was invited to the latest Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) training squads.
Henry said yesterday that questions should be asked when the number-one club in the Premier League regular season cannot get “even one player in the Jamaica national senior team camp”.
“If one is looking at the age factor with regard to our senior players, there are young players such as Ricardo Dennis, Kevaughn Isaacs, Andrew Vanzie, goalkeeper Kadeen Davis, and others who have performed well during the season,” he added.
“We are the best defensive team, and no player was invited to any of the camps. I can’t identify the pattern of how players are called to the national programme. We need to know the direction the JFF is going,” he said.
CFA CONCERN
Henry also said that the Clarendon Football Association (CFA) should be concerned that only one player from the parish was among the invitees.
“The CFA should show some leadership as only one player from Clarendon was in the training squad, and that player (Fitzroy Cummings of Sporting Central) played in the parish league. No player was invited from Humble Lion or Jamalco,” Henry stated.
President of the CFA Michael Ricketts was also disappointed that no Humble Lion player had been called to the training camps.
“Humble Lion won the preliminary round of the league format and also finished in the top four of the championship. Not getting any invitee is disappointing,” Ricketts commented.
The JFF called up several local-based players, mainly from the RSPL clubs for training camps over the past two weeks. The last camp ended yesterday.
