Hanover horror

Mother and son chased and murdered

- Bryan Miller Sunday Gleaner Writer

WESTERN BUREAU: CRIMINALS CONTINUED their deadly trek through the once-quiet parish of Hanover last Friday, leaving a 45-year-old mother and her 24-year-old son dead in their wake.

Juliet Grant and her son, Romario Daley, became murder victims 30 and 31 in Hanover since the start of the year, moving the total frighteningly closer to an almost 200 per cent increase over the 12 murders committed in the parish over the corresponding period last year.

Reports are that the mother and son were at home in Middlesex, Hanover, having dinner with some other family members about 8:30 p.m. last Friday when two men wearing masks and armed with handguns entered the house through a side door and demanded money.

RAN IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS

Grant and her son ran in opposite directions, but were chased by the men and shot.

The mother made it to the roadway in front of the house before she was shot, while Romario made it to an adjoining roadway, where he, too, was shot.

Both died on the scene with the gunmen leaving without harming any other family member.

With gang activity being blamed for a number of the murders in Hanover since the start of this year, the police, assisted by Jamaica Defence Force personnel, have stepped up their activities in the eastern end of the parish, as they attempt to dismantle six known criminal gangs operating in that area.
