Public education the way forward
IT IS our pleasure to share with you today as we celebrate Child Month. We have set out to achieve one of the goals of the Paediatric Association of Jamaica (PAJ) – to promote public information, education, and involvement in matters relating to child health and development through the media. We have chosen to focus this special supplement on ‘Parenting our children’.
Unfortunately, children do not come with a manual that will ensure that as parents and caregivers, we will get everything right as we go along this rewarding but immensely challenging path. However, with the right information, parents and caregivers will certainly have a better opportunity of enhancing their child and adolescent’s growth and development, and will be better equipped to guide their children to becoming successful adults, capable of contributing positively to society.
We are hopeful that this Child Month Gleaner Supplement 2017 will serve as a good source of information for all our parents, caregivers and our young people. We do hope you will take the time to carefully read through the articles and that you will share the information with your friends, your neighbours and, most important, with your children.
A special thank you to our sponsors without whom this special feature would not have been possible. To our readers – please enjoy!
