Fun unleashed at Buzzers
THERE’S SOMETHING buzzing at Naggo Head Drive in Portmore and we’ve finally figured out what it is. Team
Youthlink crossed the toll and took the poll and it seems, by all accounts, that Buzzers is really the ultimate family entertainment hub.
Overview
Currently two years old, Buzzers headlines family attractions in Portmore, occupying the lower floor of the famous TJ Building. As supervisor Kimanie Masters told Youthlink, “Portmore is a family-oriented place; it’s like a suburb, so who’s going to come here (to Buzzers) – kids and their families. Kingston has facilities like Jamzone, so we wanted to tap into a different market, with Portmore being the ideal market.”
Décor and set-up
Step inside a world of fun and games! Buzzers’ main arcade boasts an impressive arrangement of gaming consoles, a food area and ticket booth, setting the tone for a good time. Each game is never really far from the next, which gives just enough personal space to play your heart out, but not too much distance to keep you unaware of what else is waiting for you.
On offer are Xbox and PlayStation consoles, arcade bike games, basketball games, lucky turn, shooting games, car games (both single and double player) and crane games; and for younger children, there are candy games, small basketball games and, of course, Mickey Mouse. For cooling down and taking a break, the EndZzone overlooking the arcade is the ultimate chill spot; it features air-conditioned comfort and a two-way mirror for watchful parents who need to keep a eye on their busy kids.
Must-try activity With so much to do, one would expect the
Youthlink team to have quite a task voting for a must-try activity, but that was not the case. Instantly, the thought of the 5D Cinema Simulator popped up and we all went on a bumpy, eventful roller-coaster ride in a desert somewhere ,without ever leaving Portmore. Staffer Tanesha Walker explained, “It’s like you’re in the movie; rain falls and you feel it raining, you feel the ride actually moving. It can last five to seven minutes. The cinema is a six-seater; you go inside and you put on your seat belt and also your 5D glasses.”
Packages
The general admission is $500 per person, for both adults and kids, and this gives you one of three cool choices. Walker elaborated, “You can either get a ticket to experience our 5D Cinema Simulator, 10 tokens to play the arcade games, or four premium tokens for the PlayStation and Xbox.” If it’s your first time, you can take advantage of the first-timer’s package which allows you to experience Buzzers in its entirety, with 20 arcade tokens, four premium tokens as well as a hot dog and drink, or popcorn and drink, all for $1,500. For groups, every fifth person enters free. Special rates apply for school groups.
