Alicia completes phenomenal May days, heads to CFW

-

PULSE MODEL Alicia Burke completed her best month yet with a flurry of top assignments on both sides of the Atlantic. Her phenomenal May days will become amazing June days as its more of the same in early June, before she heads to Jamaica for the CFW shows — Friday, June 9 to Sunday, June 11.

She may remember May as the month models.com, industry ranking website, placed her on their hot list, but, according to Pulse, it may actually be the month in which the quality, width and depth of her assignments placed her at the top of all models from the Caribbean and heralded her arrival among the very top group of all models in the world.

But what was so special about Burke’s May? Interestingly, it is sometimes more instructive to assess the jobs a model is unable to do, because of conflicting assignments, than the jobs they actually do, to get a true sense of how in-demand they are. Two examples of this for Alicia, in what has now become an almost daily occurrence, are Chinese Vogue (a very key publication in today’s changing world), given up for Gucci, and a Tommy Hilfiger campaign, bested by a job that cannot be disclosed at this time.

HOUSEHUNTING

Burke started the month, after a brief house-hunting visit to Jamaica, by flying to Los Angeles for Zara, having just shot American Vogue in New York. Then it was back to New York for Ralph Lauren assignment number five (she is now clearly Ralph’s fave, having been selected to open his last show). In New York, she also shot a Clinique campaign under a contract she has with the brand. This was followed by more work for J. Crew (she shot J. Crew in April), then it was on to Stockholm to shoot her second H&M (she shot the brand’s packaging in March), before heading back to New York.

In fashion’s capital city, it was more Ralph Lauren, this time a campaign shot by David Simms, before heading to Iceland for the new Harpers Bazaar editorial (she previously made the cover) — this time a single-girl story. Back in New York, she shot magazine with the young and highly regarded Jamaican Luca Khouri, who she knows well from her pre international

Vstatus Pulse days. The following day she did the Valentino resort show, before jetting off to Florence, Italy, for the Gucci cruise wear collection. Now back in New York, she is looking at assignments for Vogue Arabia, Russian Vogue, German Vogue, Stella McCartney resort, Michael Kors preview, Tommy Hilfiger Lookbook (to be shot in Stockholm), a Tory Burch campaign, plus Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta Look books. She then heads to Jamaica for CFW.
