YL: WOULD YOU RATHER

- Antonio Gayle YOUTHLINK WRITER

YOUR SCHOOL is having its annual trip to Port Royal this weekend and this would be the first time you’ll be able to be a part of the excitement that students have always raved about? On the other hand, you have a family member who is in serious condition at the hospital and the whole family is going to pay him a visit? Would you rather go on the class trip and be a part of the fun with your classmates outside of school setting or go to the hospital to visit your relative?

Go on school trip – 70% Visit family member – 30%

“Well, it depends, though, because if it is really serious, then the family member will be in the hospital the day after, so I could always go on the trip then, the day after that, I go and visit; win, win.” (Chanaya, 19)

“Are you even serious? Visit me

familia, of course, because the same day just might be the last I’m gonna get to see him, so it isn’t even a debate. While the trip does sound enticing, my heart would have to be set on family.” (Donneth, 17)

You have been chosen by your year-group coordinator to supervise this year’s graduation ball activities for the fifth form. Such supervision entails assigning competent students to assist in making this event well executed. Do you assign your friends to help, because you are in charge and you want to have a little fun while making the event a reality, or do you take the initiative and assign competent people in order for things to be done both effectively and efficiently to meet the given deadline?

Select friends – 50% Get competent people – 50%

“I would assign the task to competent people whom I can trust. Reason being, if I give stuff to my friends to do and then the graduation ball doesn’t turn out as well as it is supposed to, then it’ll be on my head for ruining something so important. So, in light of that, I would prefer to prevent that by going the efficient and effective route.” (Kim, 17)

“We’ll get it done nonetheless, right? So, I’m going for my friends and have fun while doing it. Who knows, maybe our friendship will make our team work meet effective and efficient standards and grant the graduating class a very ‘lit’ ball.” (Gio, 19)

In light of technology in today’s day and age, would you rather never use social media sites/apps again or never watch another movie or TV show?

Never use social media/apps again – 70% Never watch movie/TV show again – 30%

“I would definitely choose watching TV/movies over social media. Through TV, we are still exposed to the latest and the modern things that are offered on social media while, on the other hand, social media seems to stir controversy a lot among the teens today, and in my eyes, that extra drama is not needed in our already-hectic lives.” (Titanya, 19)

“To be completely honest, I would really choose the TV, reason being, this is a way to escape our own lives and take a well-needed break and relax with enjoyment, as opposed to social media, where everyone is either behind a computer screen or phone screen. This takes away the human element of things and leaves us all vulnerable to every and anything, like my mom would say, ‘Society has been broken down to digits and number.’”(Shelly, 19)
