Check before hiring – Lindsay

A large number of robberies are inside jobs; employers should perform careful background checks prior to hiring.

SUPT STEPHANIE Lindsay made a special appeal to service station retailers to take the necessary precautions in ensuring that their surroundings are properly secured, when she presented at the recent Texaco Service Station Annual Retailers’ Conference.

At the event which was held at the Royalton Blue Waters Resort in Falmouth, Trelawny, Lindsay, head of communications for the Jamaica Constabulary Force, stressed the importance of retailers educating themselves on theft prevention methodologies, physical security and how to improve operational procedures.

“A large number of robberies are inside jobs; employers should perform careful background checks prior to hiring,” she said.

She stressed the need for steps to be taken on how employers should respond during a robbery where employee and customer safety is at stake, adding the warning signs to look for.

Meanwhile, physician, inventor and entrepreneur Dr Kingsley Chin, orthopaedic surgeon and managing partner & CEO at KIC Ventures on Business Growth and Developing Your Business, sought to inspire his audience, highlighting his own life experiences. He shared that being born in extremely humble beginnings in Buff Bay, Portland, propelled him to work on his own initiative which would later open doors of opportunities for him.

“I played for the Jamaica Juveniles team in international competition, and while at Titchfield, I played in the daCosta Cup finals, which gave me the exposure,” he recalled.

He further shared that the acronym ‘KIC’(his company) is the pillar on which he has built his success: Knowledge, Initiative and Close. “Knowledge of industry and what you desire your business to do and become; the initiative to do it, and then you have to close, that is, to finish it off,” he explained.
