Celebrating tremendous growth
IWOULD like to heartily congratulate Lannaman and Morris Shipping Limited on your 45th anniversary as one of Jamaica’s premier shipping agents. The maritime industry is among the world’s oldest business enterprises and continues to play a pivotal role in our contemporary society, responsible for moving 90 per cent of the world’s trade within and across borders. As international commerce continues to expand alongside the global population, it is anticipated that this industry will likewise see tremendous growth, thus becoming even more important to economies like Jamaica, which are constantly seeking avenues to sustainable development.
Without efficient and reliable maritime transport, the conveyance of raw materials and manufactured goods between countries – a pivotal factor in growth and development – would be severely impaired. Accordingly, to be successful in today’s highly competitive global economy, a shipping agent needs to offer exceptional services, ensuring not only that a vessel’s visit to the port goes smoothly, but also that the turnaround time between docking and departing is as short as possible in order to maximise the carrier’s profitability for its owners and handlers. In this regard, Lannaman and Morris Shipping Limited has been, without question, an industry leader. Your company’s substantial stake in the local cruise ship business is also of particular significance, given the value of tourism to our nation, and I commend you on the high standards you have maintained over the years in a market that is highly unpredictable and which remains susceptible to countless vagaries.
My best wishes for a successful commemoration of your 45th anniversary and for your company’s future prosperity. DR PETER PHILLIPS Leader of the the Opposition
