Railway Corporation serves notice on squatters

-

THE JAMAICA Railway Corporation (JRC) is advising the public that only staff members are authorised to conduct business relating to letting or leasing of land, collection of rental or any other financial activity in relation to is properties.

In addition, the company also wants the public to know that sale of any of its land can only be authorised or approved at the ministerial level.

In a recent press advertisement, the JRC appealed to persons who may have undertaken any business deals with anyone other than one of its authorised agents to contact its office at 142 Barry Street, Kingston, by calling 9226433/922-7349 from MondayThursday between the hours of 8:30-4:30; on Friday from 8:303:30 pm. They may also write to: Chief Executive Officer, Jamaica Railway Corporation, 142 Barry Street, PO Box 489, Kingston, or send an email to generalmanagerjrc@cwjamaica.com Occupants of JRC properties in St James who do not have a lease arrangement with the company are advised to contact the office within 30 days to regularise their situation. Failure to do so will result in the company taking the “requisite action to recover its property”, the JRC advised in the press advertisement.

“We do have various leases; we do have a substantial portfolio of tenants ...but we also have to fight the other aspects, which is the unauthorised occupants, so if you are not legitimate or formal, use this as an opportunity to get formal because in the privatisation process, that is part and parcel of what needs to be done,” Fitzroy Williams, JRC general manager, said. Meanwhile, he told The

Gleaner that the company was investigating allegations that some persons may have been conducting business purportedly on behalf of the JRC without its consent or knowledge. It was for this reason that it put out the advertisement – in order to alert and protect the public.
