Magnum to remain sponsors of KSAFA Super, Major Leagues
J WRAY AND Nephew Limited, under its Magnum Tonic Wine brand, has pledged to continue supporting the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Super and Major Leagues.
“It is an exciting time for Magnum Tonic Wine, and it is important for us to support our culture, especially in football and entertainment,” J Wray and Nephew’s marketing manager Tamika West said during the KSAFA/Magnum End-ofSeason awards ceremony at Wray and Nephew’s office in New Kingston on Monday night.
“Football is a global sport and serves as a way out for the youth, so it is important for us to continue our support of the sport in the development of the youth,” she added.
KSAFA president Wayne Shaw hailed the contribution of former Olympic Gardens youth and senior player Okeem Forth who collapsed and died during a Major League quarter-final game on April 28 at Constant Spring Complex.
“We must pause to remember the passing of our young player from Olympic Gardens FC, Okeem Forth who passed away the night of the Major League quarter-final. We must remember him for his contribution to the game,” Shaw said.
The KSAFA boss hailed title sponsor Magnum as well as associate sponsors Charles Chocolate under the Bobbie brand, Pure Water, Locker Room Sports, Xpress Printing and Soccer Xpress for the total sponsorship this season of $7.6 million for both competitions.
Cavalier who won the Super League final with a 2-1 win against Santos on May 12, were awarded the championship trophy and $400,000 cash incentive. Santos got $250,000; while Browns Town and Barbican were rewarded with $200,000 and $150,000 for third and fourth places respectively.
Ryan Miller of Cavalier was the Super League’s top scorer with 11 goals, his team-mate Al Nesbeth won the Most Valuable Player award. Cavalier’s Rudolph Speid was the coach of the year and Kishauna Williamson, also of Cavalier, was manager of the year.
In the Major League, Mountain View collected the winning trophy and $200,000; Molynes won $150,000 for second place; Pembroke Hall earned $100,000 for third place and Cooreville Gardens won $75,000 for fourth place.
Troylan Williams of Mountain View was the top scorer with eleven goals; the MVP was Dwayne Colley of Mountain View. The club also walked off with coach of the year, Jahmiah Pettigrew; and manager of the year, Dunstan Baker.
