Continue to improve upon gains already made

-

THE NATIONAL Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) has since its inception made Jamaica’s beauty its number one duty. Over the years, the public cleansing authority has managed the disposal of the nation’s solid waste. This has been achieved through teamwork, public education and government support.

I am pleased to commemorate Solid Waste Day 2017.

A clean environment contributes to a higher quality of life and greater productivity. We cannot achieve development without maintaining the quality of our environment. In this regard, the NSWMA plays an instrumental role in conserving our country’s natural beauty, resources and the health of citizens.

The organisation, along with its leaders and staff, must be commended for their hard work and dedication. I salute them for their perseverance in working to achieve a clean Jamaica. While there is much work to be done, I am confident that the NSWMA will recommit to ensuring a ‘Better Solid Management, Healthier Jamaica’. I strongly encourage that you continue to improve upon the gains made and to leave a model behind for other organisations to follow closely. I implore all the leaders and members of the NSWMA to remain resolute in your mission to preserve the environment and contribute to the success of Jamaica. All Jamaicans must work to create an environment befitting for all to enjoy. It is a fitting legacy to leave for our future generations. Jamaica’s beauty is indeed our duty. ANDREW HOLNESS Prime Minister
