Take pride in keeping your surroundings clean
THE ENVIRONMENT or natural world is one thing that all organisms share. We all depend on it for our sustenance, growth and development. Proper waste management is an important aspect of caring for the environment to ensure a balanced ecosystem and the well-being of all living organisms.
In recent years, there have been a wealth of knowledge and policies governing proper waste management techniques. Many societies, including Jamaica, have become even more conscientious and creative when it comes to the treatment of waste and decision-making on environmental preservation issues.
While progress has been made with solid waste management protocol and the promotion of public information, much more needs to be done. The Jamaican citizenry needs to take the requisite action to acquire optimum benefits from our environment.
I implore each individual to apply the knowledge in your daily practices by disposing of your waste properly. Also, take personal responsibility and greater pride in keeping your surroundings and public spaces clean. Irresponsible disposal of waste or not considering the convenience of other people and the environment is a selfish act that our people should refrain from doing.
MORE PLEASANT SPACE
Let us endeavour to reduce waste, reuse and recycle materials around our homes, schools, and communities. The efficient management of waste makes a more pleasant experience for each individual and preserves the environment for our neighbours and future generations. I join the National Solid Waste Management Authority in commemorating this occasion under the theme, ‘Better Solid Waste Management, Healthier Jamaica’! God bless you.
