Relay for Life still in need of sponsorshi­p

THE JAMAICA Cancer Society’s Relay For Life has been reschedule­d for Saturday, July 1, 2017, at the Police Officers’ Club, Hope Road, St Andrew.

The 15th staging of the fundraisin­g event, which was originally scheduled for Saturday, June 17, was postponed as a result of inclement weather.

With a target of $15 million from this staging of the event, fundraisin­g and public relations officer at the Jamaica Cancer Society Shullian Brown said that registrati­on for the event is still open and will close tomorrow. “We’re still inviting the public to come on board to support the event by forming teams. We’re also still in need of sponsorshi­p and encourage persons to make a donation to the Cancer Society.”

The highlights of the event will include a luminaria ceremony, karaoke, and ‘socarobics’. The Cancer Society is especially encouragin­g persons over the next two weeks to support the luminaria ceremony in honour of loved ones who have passed away from the disease by purchasing special luminaria bags from the society.

All proceeds from the event will be used by the Cancer Society to expand and strengthen its public-education and healthprom­otion programmes, establish screening clinics across the island, and provide support to vulnerable and newly diagnosed cancer patients.
