‘We should have some peace now’
DSP Beeput says Hanover most wanted was a multiple murderer
WITH ALLEGED multiple murderer Shernado Leslie now out of the way, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sharon Beeput, the commanding officer for the Hanover Police Division, is confident that some measure of peace should return to the parish, which has been plagued by murders and gun violence since the start of the year. “This man has been giving us a lot of trouble since the start of the year. We believe he has had a hand in the vast majority of the 36 murders we have had in the parish this year,” said Beeput. “With him now out of the way, we should have some measure of peace now.”
Leslie, known in the criminal underworld as ‘Blacks,’ was implicated in a recent quadruple murder, two triple murders and two double murders. He was said to be the chief enforcer for the One Voice gang, one of the three criminal gangs operating in the parish.
CORNERED AND KILLED
Leslie, who was considered armed and dangerous, was allegedly cornered on a back road in the Green Island section of the parish on Friday night. Following a gunfight with a joint police-military patrol, he was killed. A Glock pistol, which was believed to be his favourite weapon, was seized by the police.
“We hope his death will send a strong signal to the other gangsters out there that they can run, but they cannot hide,” said Beeput. “We know that there are other men out there who are dangerous, but this ‘Blacks’ was at the top of the list because he was merciless ... even willing to kill members of his own family.”
Continued Beeput: “This is a man who has turned his gun on children and old people and slaughtered them like they were dogs. I know that Hanover will be a better place without him and I hope we will now see a more peaceful parish going forward.”
