1975:actress The American

singer Eartha Kitt will be in Jamaica for the Independen­ce anniversar­y celebratio­ns, according to a report received by The Gleaner. It is understood that Kitt will be travelling with members of a California-based organisati­on called Caribbean American Peoples. Several members are Jamaicans and are coming for a holiday. They will travel in two groups, one on a chartered flight, the other by Air Jamaica from Miami. The latter group, of which Kitt is a member, will make a stopover in Montego Bay, coming on to Kingston with the flight. It will be a private visit for Kitt, who will stay at the home of the Jamaican who leads the group. She was last in the island in 1968 for a rest. Market is to be removed from its current site at 1A Windward Road to a newly identified location at 163 Windward Road at the eastern entrance to the city. The new market will provide facilities for over 300 vendors, including itinerant vendors along the Windward Road and adjacent areas, and will facilitate areas such as Bull Bay, Harbour View, Port Royal, Norman Gardens and Springfiel­d. An interim allocation of $595,000 has been provided by the Ministry of Local Government for the acquisitio­n of land and purchase price; profession­al fees to cover architectu­ral plans; and demolition, site clearing and boarding.
