Exciting schedule promised for 2017 annual Denbigh show

The 65th annual staging is scheduled for August 5-7, 2017 on the Denbigh Showground, May Pen, Clarendon, under the theme ‘Grow what we eat – Eat what we grow’ subtheme – A Salute to our Farmers, Nation Builders. The patrons will once again be given the opportunit­y

to experience the Denbigh Village Concepts. CHILDREN AND FAMILY VILLAGE

The Children and Family Village will focus primarily on teaching children about agricultur­e in a fun way, through games, rides and agricultur­e-based activities. Children, at a young age, are impression­able and it is an opportunit­y to sow the seeds of agricultur­e in their minds, in this way, the future of agricultur­e can be protected. HEALTH & WELLNESS VILLAGE

One of the focuses of the Health and Wellness Village is to provide health-care services that are both educationa­l and beneficial for the patrons’ well-being.

In recognisin­g the important elements of maintainin­g complete physical, mental, and social lifestyle the health and wellness village becomes an integral aspect of the Denbigh Show to provide screening, essential tests and health checks to interested persons attending the event. YOUTH IN AGRICULTUR­E VILLAGE

The Jamaica 4H Clubs and other partners and sponsors will once again host the Youth in Agricultur­e Village. This will be mounted over the three-day duration of the show; however, Youth in Agricultur­e Day will be Saturday, August 5, 2017. The theme for this village is ‘Farmers: Budding Nation Builders’. Youth in Agricultur­e Competitio­ns will be held throughout the day. Some of these competitio­ns will include AgriMobile App, Drink Real Poster and Agro-processing/Nutraceuti­cal TOURISM LINKAGES VILLAGE

The JAS will partner with the Jamaica Tourist Board and the Ministry of Tourism for this initiative. The Village is intended to highlight and promote the opportunit­ies and demand within the sectors and the importance of collaborat­ion to showcase our cuisine culture and to inform the public of its benefits to national developmen­t. There will be a special feature on gastronomy. DENBIGH SYMPOSIUM

The Denbigh Symposium is an annual event that was introduced in 2013 to increase awareness by stakeholde­rs in the agrifood sector on critical issues affecting production, trade and marketing of agricultur­al and agri-based products.

Since 2016 the Jamaica

Diaspora Agricultur­e Taskforce (JDAT) has partnered with the Jamaica Agricultur­al Society to deliver the Denbigh Symposium, which is focused on providing tools, resources and profession­al developmen­t for Jamaican farmers. This year the Symposium will focus on the ways technology can enable farmers to access new markets, optimise resources and minimise waste.

Portmore Mall 9:00 a.m. & 12:00 Noon Spanish Town Transport Centre 10:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m. Denbigh Showground 7:30 p.m. & 10:30 p.m. Fares: Adults – $1,400.00; Children – $1,200.00 round trip.

Local and Internatio­nal Displays/Exhibits Farmers’ Market Salute to our Nation’s Farmers

The Jamaica Agricultur­al Society and the Ministry of Industry Commerce Agricultur­e and Fisheries highlight and salute the farmers of Jamaica for their remarkable contributi­on to the agricultur­al sector. As a result there will be several activities throughout the show in salute to them. Which include but not limited to:

On August 6, 2017) a parade of farmers at 10:00 a.m., that lead into the show ring and culminatin­g with a 15 minutes ceremony where 65 selected farmers will be presented with the President’s Medal for services rendered to the agricultur­al sector.
