I can’t complain – Mowatt
LONDON, England: KEMAR MOWATT is not clinging to any disappointment after his fourth-place finish in the 400 final at the World Championships in London, but feels he could have certainly won the event.
Mowatt, competing at this level for the first time, crossed the line in 48.99 seconds after a late charge, but could not get the better of gold-medal winner Karsten Warholm (Norway), 48.35; Yasmani Copello (Turkey), 48.49 and Kerron Clement, 48.52.
“It’s a great feeling, I would have hoped to do better, but I can’t complain,” Mowatt said.
“I honesty thought I could have won that race but it didn’t go as I wanted it to go, but I am grateful because a lot of persons didn’t make it to the final, so I am thankful,” Mowatt added.
Mowatt, who just competed his junior year at Arkansas University, said he was happy to be able to make it to the final and finish strongly after a long season that started in January in the US collegiate circuit.
“I was just trying to reach the finish line. I’ve had a very long season, so I really just wanted to finish strong in my last race,” said Mowatt. “I slipped coming off the first hurdle, so I was
grateful to get my body back intact and finish strongly.”
“The experience has been amazing, the crowd here, the Jamaican fans here, my friends were expecting a lot, so I’m happy I was kind of able to deliver,” he added.
“Coming in, I just looked at it as a regular race, there may be some faster guys, but I was just grateful for the experience.”
Mowatt, who hails from St Elizabeth, says he is looking forward to getting some rest.
Mowatt’ season started on January 13 for his university, with last night’s final being his 40th race this year.
