THE UTECH Academy is engaged in the provision of innovative and expanded access to learning; the stimulatio­n of economic and societal growth through community capacity building; and the provision of access to both local and internatio­nal students.

Education and national developmen­t are inextricab­ly linked. The building of a culture of higher education among Jamaican highschool students is an important national imperative and the UTech, Jamaica Academy is organised to meet these needs in contributi­ng to Jamaica’s social and economic growth.

The academy provides relevant and customised training to high-school students in preparatio­n for matriculat­ion. In addition, it collaborat­es and partners with community agencies, organisati­ons and individual­s to develop and deliver programmes that respond to local needs.

From its sites in Kingston, Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, the UTech, Ja Academy prepares eligible individual­s, particular­ly school leavers, to matriculat­e to the UTech Ja faculties through the provision of preunivers­ity courses; manages the preliminar­y courses required for each faculty; provides opportunit­ies for personal and profession­al educationa­l developmen­t through continuing education programmes; responds to the training and developmen­tal needs of corporate entities. The Academy offers an associate degree in business administra­tion and diploma-level courses of study in management studies and human resource management. Additional­ly, the academy will collaborat­e with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Informatio­n to offer three occupation­al associate degrees beginning in September 2017.
