-

SHIPPING ASSOCIATION of Jamaica member companies Jamaica Producers Group and Seaboard Marine recently partnered to make a much-needed improvement to the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI). The partnership consisted of shipping the most modern intensive care unit (ICU) beds to Jamaica. The beds include features representing both the best in patient care and the best in ease of use for hospital staff. A total of 12 beds arrived in two shipments from the United States. They will be used in the renovation of ICU A. Two of the beds will service high-dependency patients and the others will service the critical care area. This is a part of the overall renovation of the ICU.

David Walker, director of contracts and services at the UHWI, commended the hospital’s chairman, James Moss Solomon, who sought the partnership to support the project of renovating the ICU. Moss Solomon, in his brief remarks, expressed great pride in being able to bring the “Rolls Royce” of ICU beds to UHWI. He also expressed his enthusiasm at the prospect of improved patient care and service experience at the UHWI.

Lisa Johnston, corporate affairs manager at Jamaica Producers Group Limited, shared that “Jamaica Producers Group is pleased to contribute to the excellent work of the university hospital by using its logistics network to facilitate the transportation of this equipment. We know that in the critical area of the ICU, it will be of benefit to many Jamaicans and to the staff who care for them”. Coreen Williams, director of sales & marketing, Seabord Jamaica, added that for their part, “Seaboard Marine is pleased to have partnered with Jamaica Producers to bring this much-needed equipment to the UHWI”.

Walker expressed the gratitude of the hospital for their assistance and stated that he looked forward to their possible assistance in the future as they continue to renovate their ICU facilities.
