Speakers to fire up gas conference
THE PETROLEUM Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ) is hosting a natural gas conference next month. It is to be held between October 4 and 6, 2017, at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel, St Andrew. The theme of the conference, being jointly hosted by the PCJ and the Office of Utilities Regulation, is ‘New Horizons: The Development of a Natural Gas Sector in Jamaica – Prospects and Challenges.’ The following are some of the speakers:
Allison Peart
Peart is the country managing partner and a tax partner at the Ernst & Young office in Jamaica. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto with a major in chemistry and a minor in commerce. She has more than 20 years of public accounting experience with professional services firms in serving a wide range of clients, including Canadian Schedule 1 banks, and has worked for Ernst & Young in Toronto and New York in international tax services practice.
She has worked with a number of clients in Jamaica across a wide range of industries, including retail, distribution, manufacturing, financial services, and hospitality.
Professor Alvin Wint
Professor Wint is pro vice-chancellor and board chair for undergraduate studies, and institutional advancement officer at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona campus. He is also professor of international business in the Department of Management Studies at UWI. He serves on the boards of Jamaica Producers Group, Jamaica Promotions Corporation and the Statistical Institute of Jamaica. He is chairman of the audit committees of the boards of National Commercial Bank, Jamaica and NCB Insurance Company.
Andrew Wheatley
Dr Andrew Wheatley is in his second term as member of parliament for South Central St Catherine. He was appointed Jamaica’s minister of science, energy and technology in March 2016 and is a deputy general secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party. Wheatley served as councillor for the Naggo Head division of the St Catherine Parish Council for nine years. He was mayor of Spanish Town from 2005 to 2012 following a stint as deputy mayor of Spanish Town and vice-chairman of the then St Catherine Parish Council from June 2003 to 2005.
Bert Kiewiet
As a consultant and project manager with DNV GL, Kiewiet is involved in several projects related to both the transmission systems for natural gas and energy conversion networks. These activities are the combined strength of extensive knowledge and experience in the field of modelling and design of natural gas transmission networks, regulatory aspects, energy conversion and distribution, model-based optimisation and strategic analysis.
Bob Fryklund
Fryklund, chief upstream strategist, IHS Energy, has 35 years of experience in exploration and production as a proven explorer and senior executive. He is an industry expert on upstream strategic issues, including company building, portfolio management, access, valuation, Latin America and unconventionals. Fryklund is a frequent keynote speaker for industry events, including the World Economic Forum, IHS CERAWEEK, IEF-OPEC, OTC, NAPE, AAPG and SPE.
Fryklund’s education includes an advanced management certificate. He graduated from Hamilton College, Clinton, New York, with a bachelor of arts in geology.
