- Carl Gilchrist Gleaner Writer

AT OCHO Rios High School, the study group of Malik Bennett, Dominic Waite, Tyrese Henry and Kayode Palmer passed a total of 46 subjects in this year’s CSEC examinations.

Malik led the way with 13 while the others got 11 each.

Speaking to The Gleaner after classes on Monday, where he’s now in sixth form at the school, Malik stressed the importance of mentioning his peers in the study group, explaining the positive impact they had on each other, which resulted in the overall great performance.

Malik scored grade one in six subjects: English, integrated science, chemistry, information technology, principles of business and electronic document preparation and management. He also passed mathematics, social studies, biology, electrical technology, Spanish, principles of accounts and technical drawing.

For the record, he failed literature.

The reaction to his success has been amazing, he pointed out.

“Everyone is happy, obviously, and some are a bit surprised because I didn’t tell everyone I was doing that many subjects,” he pointed out.

“I am very happy. The preparation wasn’t so bad, I had help from my friends. We formed a study group so we could study at the same time and help each other.”

He nevertheless admitted to having doubts regarding some subjects as the heavy workload began to take its toll on him, approaching

approaching exam time. In the end, though, he came through with flying colours.

Malik, who admits to being a “very reserved” person, is aiming for a career in computational chemistry. He is currently studying chemistry, biology, pure maths, management of business, business law, sociology and Caribbean studies.

“I’m thinking about doing more; these I am certain of, at the moment,” said the resident of Pimento Walk in Ocho Rios.
