Hard work is key, says Ritchie
WITH HIS eyes on the prize for as far back as he can remember, Micayah Ritchie cashed out on his hard work with 11 CSEC passes, 10 of which are grade ones.
When asked how he achieved such feat, the 17year-old students of Morant Bay High School said he has had a special regime since fourth form.
“I would practise everything I learned in class, YouTube it and ensured that I had a full understanding that whenever asked, I could answer any question,” he said, noting that he ensured he knew the content from start so when exam time came around, he didn’t have much studying to do.
Though uncertain about the specific career path he will be pursuing in a few years, the young scholar was confident about his immediate aspirations.
“I’d like to have a programme where I gather a group of people and together we go into schools
and assist weaker students so that they can better develop and encourage achievement because I believe it’s not just the mind of one person, but a group effort that guarantees success.
“I am also looking to carry this project into adulthood where we could assist financially as well.
“Right now, I’m working out my timetable to see how best it fits in, and I have already spoken to other students who are willing to come on board,” he said.
Speaking on the keys to success, Micayah listed hard work, dedication and prayer.
According to him: “Prayer comes in because we need to speak to God and ask for wisdom to pursue an education, and as we know, prayer without faith and work is dead. We need to continue to work hard to be able to achieve.”
Micayah, who will be the valedictorian at his graduation to be held next month, told The Gleaner that the role goes beyond just delivering a speech to his schoolmates.
“I’m happy to have been elected to speak as valedictorian. With the role, I now have a responsibility to send a message to the rest of my cohort. The one I’d like to send is that no matter the struggles and how hard things may get, just keep praying and working hard and everything will be all right.”
