Prayer keeps her going

-

LOWER SIXTH form Clarendon College student Tishiana Fearon can now look back in satisfaction as she has totally aced her Caribbean Education Secondary Certificate with eight ones and a two.

It was not an easy road to get to her goal, but for her it was prayer, family support and sheer determination that saw her achieving her goals.

“I have come to the realisation that my parents work extremely hard to ensure that I attend school on a daily basis, provide the necessary school materials, which are vital for learning and that I have my healthy meals,” she said of another motivation to excel – the supreme sacrifices her parents are making for her.

“That motivated me to work hard to make my parents and myself proud.

Even though they have never received secondary or tertiary education, they have always been fully involved in my academics,” said Tishiana.

Acquiring the impressive grades did not come without some challenges, which she said surrounded the completion of her School Based Assessments.

Balancing nine subjects plus evening classes was sometimes overwhelming, Tishiana said.

“I overcame my challenges mainly by prayer and I intrinsically motivated myself. I also made a timetable so I was able to spend equal amount of time on each subject, and those that I was weak on I sought help from teachers and classmates,” she said of her preparation strategy.

For topics she didn’t quite get, she said she took the time to do her own research on them.

The 17-year-old, who resides in Cross Roads, Chapelton, and enjoys reading and surfing the Net, is now enrolled as a business major and has set her sights on being a successful chartered accountant.

“My ultimate goal is to be successful in whatever I put my mind to, with the help of God,” Tishiana said.
