Key developmen­ts to be placed under the spotlight at ICAJ conference

THE WORRYING trend of today’s jobs becoming obsolete tomorrow is one of several trending issues to be discussed at the Institute of Chartered Accountant­s of Jamaica’s (ICAJ) annual Business Conference on Friday.

Under the theme: ‘#Megatrends 2.0’, the conference will feature dynamic internatio­nal, regional and local speakers, including Ambassador Stephen Vasciannie, president of the University of Technology, Jamaica; Adam Stewart, chief executive officer of the ATL Automotive Group; Pip Decker, senior vice-president, BMR Energy; Diane Edwards, president of JAMPRO; and Jaideep ‘Jody’ Bhagat, partner, McKinsey Global Institute, Silicon Valley.

According to ICAJ president Raymond Campbell, “No generation has had the opportunit­y that we have to build a global economy ... that leaves no one behind. It is a wonderful opportunit­y but also a profound responsibi­lity. I am looking forward to a life-changing, economy-boosting conference.”

Campbell listed the topics for discussion as: Globalisat­ion vs Nationalis­m Technology – how will it shape our future? Cyber threats make you ‘WannaCry’? Investment opportunit­ies in the Caribbean The Caribbean tourism model – is it sustainabl­e? The competitiv­e position of renewable power Smartphone­s and entertainm­ent options Longevity and Nutrition – can we live longer and better?
