Warriors’ Bulli gets aggressive with Panthers
NATIONAL LEFT-ARM wrist spinner Dennis Bulli claimed an eight-wicket haul to lead Western Warriors to firstinnings honours over Northern Panthers at the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium in the third round of the Jamaica Cricket Association Super League yesterday.
Bulli, in claiming what is the highest individual haul to date in the new-look championship, picked up 8 for 51 as the Northern Panthers, in response to 254 for 9 declared made by the Western Warriors, were bowled out for 142.
Alwayne Williams, 62, and Marlon Johnson, 22, made most runs for the Panthers.
Earlier, resuming on 213 for 9, the Western Warriors were piloted by 62 not out from captain Myron Wilson, 62 from Leonardo Friginette and 43 from Bulli.
Captain Damani Sewell, 5 for 54, Herman Henry, 2 for 24 and Nicholson Gordon, 2 for 43, snared most wickets.
OUTSTANDING BOWLING
“It was an outstanding bowling performance from Bulli,” said Western Warriors coach Phillip Service. “He spun the ball, and bowled with a lot of control, and as such was able to expose the batting deficiencies of a number of their batsmen.”
“It’s our second first-innings result in three matches, and we are happy with the way the team is playing so far, and with this result, moving us to second in the standings, we hope to grow from strength to strength.”
Elsewhere, the matches between Eastern Tigers and Southern Seals at Melbourne Oval, and early front-runners Combined Universities and Colleges (CUC) and Central Titans at Chedwin Park ended in no-result draws.
At Chedwin Park, CUC, after resuming on 65 for one, made 197, with West Indies batsman Chadwick Walton emerging as the top runscorer after taking his overnight score of 37 to 52. He was supported by Rajhni Christie, 44, Oshane Walters, 27 and Paul Palmer, 23.
This was against Windies Under-19 offspinner Jeavor Royal, 3 for 35, and Peat Salmon, 3 for 56.
Central Titans, in reply, were restricted to 177 for 8, with Jamaica Tallawahs batsman Kennar Lewis making a quick-fire 50, Albert Gopie, 42, and Trevon Griffiths, 27.
Fast-bowling all-rounder Chris Powell, 3 for 52, and left-arm spinner Odane Vassell, 3 for 61, ended with most wickets.
Meanwhile, over at Melbourne Oval, no play was possible on the second and final day because of rain.
Southern Seals, after being sent to bat by Eastern Tigers, faced 4.1 overs and were 9 for 1 on the opening day before rain prevented further play.
